I used to write those ‘Once upon a time’ stories as a child on a cheap plastic typewriter. I used to sneak the computer paper and pretend I was some kind of novelist. I remember using Livejournal and Blogger to just journal what I was going through, but I limited my transparency.
Over the years I learned the importance of honesty. It wasn’t just to let people know they weren’t alone, but to remind myself that being real brought healing. Writing down what I was experiencing brought me perspective, clarity, and sharing actually connected me with other people.
Writing in journals is amazing and I love the artistic component to it, but I move a lot and I don’t have the luxury of moving boxes of old journals anymore. So much has been going on in my life and I not only want to share the ups and downs of my life, but also remind myself of how far I have come.
