Forlorn Friendships

candleistic.png

The more she ran away from fair-weather friends the more vicious they became in trying to define her broken identity. She was strong enough to withstand pain, but this seeped into her soul. One by one each individual took a part of her just to cast it into the fire. Their spiteful indiscretions became her definition of friendship. She didn't believe that loyalty existed nor did she feel worthy of compassion. She questioned the genuine solidarity of innocent strangers and built walls against indiscernible motives. It was easy for her to be alone. She insisted on remaining still in the dark because it eliminated the obvious indication that wasn't okay. She ran from the accountability of what really weighed her down. She was an outcast by default and no one even cared to spare her grace. Her personal understanding of undeserved grace highlighted the importance of Christ’s gift to her. His friendship and love would become the sutures of unhealed wounds. His sacrifice became the candlelight in her darkened room and for once she wasn't scared to show her pain. She learned to embrace her brokenness instead of allowing it to dictate her identity.
